Sudden Unexpected Art Exhibition

July 27, 2006 · No Comments

After what has been the longest game of phone tag I have participated in (a complete stranger actually yelled “oh my god, it’s a real person!!” when Stinky answered the phone), I will be showing my tapestries at The Spirit of Edmonds Show & Shine car show this Sunday 10:30 - 4 PM! Yippee! It’s super last minute, but I’m very stoked to be a part of it.

I’ve lots to prepare, since it’s the first time I’ve set up a booth-type situation all by myself. Somehow I now have to figure out how to hang my framed pieces in the parking lot of OK Tire on Edmonds, in Burnaby. Yup, girl can’t step away from a challenge. Oh did I mention that this has all just come about 4 days before the event?!?

I’ll post pictures of the show and the ensuing cacophony of strange suburban escapades next week.

Magazine Swap mags have arrived!!

July 12, 2006 · No Comments

I came home yesterday to a lovely package waiting for me - the magazines from Tania in Portugal for the Magazine Swap!! yippee!! A magazine on embroidery and needle-crafts, AND a magazine on how to make purses & bags. So great! I love getting mail (that aren’t bills, of course), but this was especially fab. This was the first swap I’ve participated in, and it is such a treat to look through magazines from other countries. How did she know that the very day the magazines were waiting for me at home I would be sitting on the bus ride home, thinking about planning an embroidery project!! perfect. :) THANK YOU TANIA!

I will post pictures once I’m home tonight.

tweaks and fiddling

July 8, 2006 · 1 Comment

Playing with the code on this page… adding some colour links, and fiddling with the font size (too small?), making this template a little more my own.

I found a great old natural leather jacket for $2 at an alley/yard sale this morning. I’ve always wanted to play with leather, do some distressing and dyeing to see what happens. Maybe I’ll start to play and make a real leather corset [a girl must dream big] Here’s a pic of me last Hallowe’en in my cotton muslin corset I made all by myself!

Of course, the insane girl that I am, I hadn’t sewn anything in years, and the first project I actually jump into is a full on corset! But it worked (yay! and Stinky likes it too…lol), and I now have a pattern that fits me.

The pickings were somewhat slim at the yard sale, but Stinky found a great big glass jar (the kind used in making home-brew wine)… I sense a giant “think in jar” [EDIT should read "thing in jar" - funny typo!] coming soon… :D

A wee quick little blog break during my super-hectic-deadline-driven Friday. (soon I will go home and there will be beer. yes, beer. amen!)

the Mag Swap Flickr Group is buzzing with all the neat-o goodies being delivered! I can hardly wait to see what is en route to me from Portugal! My package was delivered from Vancouver to Lisboa in 7 days!! YAY super speedy posties! It was expected to take two weeks. I forgot to take pictures of what I sent, but my swap buddy will post some shots when her camera gets all charged up!

Thanks again Cotton Strudel for the wicked organamalization! You rock!
